Hi,

I use this forum for my Z3 which is like my weekend car but so far it has proved to be better than my daily car.
I have a Toyota Auris 2016 (e18 i think).
So it made a rattling noise and lost power at high speeds so i searched i found out it is a relatively common issue the high pressure fuel pump.
I have only worked on the M44 on my Z3 before so i have never seen a fuel pump on the engine itself but it looks very easy to replace and it is a small part.
I call Toyota and they ask for 1200£ just for the part. And they cannot provide any part numbers, manufacturers or specs. Right now i hate Toyota feels like a scam.
The part has no writing or codes anywhere on it but i found one that looks the same and is for a Corolla which i think is the same car but named differently outside the UK.
The part costs 150-250£ in some random sites i found it which still expensive but more reasonable than 1200£. But i am not a mechanic i just work on my Z3 as a hobby, i do understand things though.

23101-0Y010 296100-3092 231010Y010 2961003092 for Toyota Corolla 1.2T 296100-3094

Can anyone provide any help any feedback based on experience. I know some of the forum members are very experienced.

Sorry for the random post but i really need to avoid the 1200£ Toyota fee.

Thanks!!!

Hello @MikeK - if I can pop to my indie mechanic today, I’ll ask him for you. If not today, it will be tomorrow.

The missing info, I'm guessing it is a diesel engined car? Generally high pressure diesel pumps are relatively simple to fit as they're not "timed" at all.
I would suggest having a search on YouTube there are many informative videos uploaded on there.

Tony.

ps. Ask the seller if it will fit your car by giving them the full Vin. Number.

It is petrol. I have found some parts. The old pump for my car is now discontinued and 650£+. The slightly newer one is available from china on aliexpress, looks exactly the same but i am a bit scared to just buy it for 160£ and the be stuck with it and a broken car.

It is so frustrating that Toyota doesnt just use standard parts like BMW does and they dont even support their own cars. Like 2016 is new...

Sorry but I have difficulty connecting a failed fuel pump with a rattle from the engine. In my experience it is more likely to be a failed oil pump which in turn makes the timing chain wear very badly affecting the whole timing of the engine, more so at high revs. The same problem afflicts the Yaris models too.

It sits on top of the engine like the one in the BMW n43. The sound is coming from the module i think.
Part of the reason i am thinking its the pump is a recall for a similar pump from 2018 corolla and auri cars but i dont know.
MPG seems down since the noise started like 5mpg it seems and i am using e5 anyways so its not the e10 switch.
Main issue is when i put the throttle down the car shakes back and forth which seems like inconsistent fueling or turbo issues. I had a look at the intake side and its all perfect so again it comes back to fueling.
I just want to avoid spending 1200£ i dont have on a car the was supposed to be reliable...
Thanks for all the responses though!!!

A new one on me then. Is there anything on YouTube about this issue, there is a good deal of useful info on there these days?

Tony.

Find on the car the Toyota plate. Probably under the bonnet/hood. It will state with engine the car is fitted with. Toyota standardise the engines across their platforms. So, once you know which engine you have, go to the wreckers/car junkers and buy a secondhand pump. Get the car going and prove that it was the pump. Then you can work on getting a new one if needed.

I once took an engine and auto transmission out of a 2006 Toyota Wish people mover and fitted it into a 2001 Toyota Corolla. Exactly the same base units, with just a few late model changes that could easily be turned back to the 2001 model spec.

Thanks!
I know the engine number, i can even find used parts online but cant find too much information on rebuilding or even testing such pumps. I may need to risk it and just buy one and see if it is better than the one i already have.

Mark, the indie mechanic, has said the same.
Have you had a diagnostic on the car to determine it’s the fuel pump?
