Hi all.

I have found some guides on how to replace the water pump on my 1.9, M44 engine, but they all seem to skip the fan removal or at least only cover the basics of "use the right tool" without confirming the tool or what to connect it to.

Does anyone know of any good guides in this respect? My plan is to do the water pump, the thermostat and the belt while it's off and depending on my courage level and back injury, the side and rear plastic flanges.

Regards,

Viscous Fan Removal Tool

A well worth addition to your tool kit.
Viscous fan unit is screwed on to the pump with a left hand thread.

Sometimes putting a spanner on nut and swift blow with a hammer wil shock loose if not this video shows an alternative way.

Stephen.
Both perfect. Very much appreciated.

Now just to find out how to drain the coolant lol. I have tried far and wide to get someone in county Durham to do the jobs and as soon as they hear that it's a 27 year old car, they just ghost me on the responses. Looks like I need to swap the pump, thermostat and coolant myself :(

Have a look on YouTube for posts from “ cool cat Ali” she did the entire cooling system over about 4 videos I found them really helpful when I did my cooling system. It covers draining the block and the radiator. Replacing the radiator/ water pump/ thermostat and housing/ serpentine belt. Various pulleys hoses / viscous fan removal , also covers refilling the system. It was listed as z3 cooling system replacement.
