I just saw this on a Central Florida news channel that I watch. A man was out walking near Ocala a few miles from our place when he startled this Raccoon, which escaped him by running out onto this "log" in the lake.

I wonder which got the bigger shock , the Raccoon or the Log?

Probably did Bill, they're nasty little critters. You wouldn't want to handle one. But I bet it s*** itself when the 'gator moved!=))

They can go up to 40 pounds. They're great swimmers and have been known to drown predators that follow them into the water. I was once at the Philadelphia zoo walking through the children's area with some kids. They had a cage with chicken wire that had tame raccoons there. As I was walking past this, I paused for a minute to see where some of the kids that I was with were. When I stopped, next to the cage, a huge raccoon stuck his hand out between the chicken wire and grabbed a handful of the terrycloth shirt I was wearing and just yanked me close to the cage. I was astonished at the power of him just pulling me over to him. Frankie
