Took the TD4 to KF to have an oil change a while back, couldn't fathom out to do an oil change so sucked it out of the dip stick :arghh:
Won’t be the first time. Must have been the trained oil technicians day off =))

That is the same way BMW main dealers do it, except for the newer models which don't have dip sticks.

The later ones do have a drain plug. PITA if you don't have the engine very warm and oil thin.

My main concern with this type of oil change:(. Having said that back in the day there were engines which did not have an external, removable oil filter to change. Instead they had a centrifugal "filter" built into the front crankshaft pulley where the engine oil was fed into the hollow pulley and the centrifugal force threw the particles to the outside and left the "clean" oil to go back into system.
To service this filter you simply unbolted the outer cover of the pulley and scraped the crud out and cleaned the cover before replacing it to do it's work all over again. Last seen on old Fiats and Simcas.

If your child was ill would you take it to the local Co op for a diagnosis?
So why take your car to people like Kwik Fit when you have problem.
It is unfortunate true mechanics are a dying breed but has been said many times before, use it or lose it.

I couldn't agree more Paul as I see this type of thing most days from our in house Halfords rejects. They could not mend and make do or repair something even if their lives depended on it.:(:(

This is nothing new from kwik-crap. They have had a bad name for donkeys years for over charging and doing inadequate and unnecessary work.

And a lot of these 'mechanics' are turned out by colleges who put pressure on staff too sign them off to get the money in and maintain good retention and achievement figures to avoid sanctions for not meeting targets. I had a support worker in workshop that was level 3 (full diagnostic) trained from another college, she couldn't even change a set of brake shoes!! That's why I got out of teaching and went to assessing in the workplace instead. It's wholesale fraud in colleges . :(:rage: May as well give them their qualification when they enrol for all the difference it makes.

Yup. My lad has just completed the full course at College. 100% attendance and passed all exams. Miles ahead of the class, the instructor passed most of the students as most didn't even show up, some of which are now servicing YOUR car! My lad spent most of his time teaching other students, one of which couldn't change a battery after 2 years :arghh:
