Am i crazy for thinking this?

WOW great minds and fools......

My daily driver is an E91 330d and I've also thought this would be a stonking engine to put in a Z, I just didn't have the nerve to say it out loud!
Going to watch this thread with interest...

If you don't say them out load you'll always wonder if anyone else is thinking along the same lines and possibly by putting your ideas out there could come up with some interesting theories working with others. I, for example just had a discussion about turbo vs superchargers with someone that pointed out a simpler way to accomplish both for my project. JIM

Really. A BBC.:ymdevil: Come on Badboy..... HT....=))

I would start the project with a face lift car, or a wide body 2.8 pre face lift, other wise you will struggle for differentials that will fit, the M44 was narrow body, and as such uses the small case diff from an E30, where as the others use the medium case from the E36, so lots of choice on ratio's plus diff lock, and no need to change drive shafts etc. you could start the project with a 325Tds engine or an E46 330xd, got to be loads about

Coming back to the first question: one distinctive property of Z3 is that from all (more than 300.000 units produced), none was diesel.
Historically, the first engine for automotive was petrol and almost 50 years it had the supremacy on passenger cars.
The Zed it's clearly a car able to be a Historical Vehicle in the future; some countries, as Italy, prepares already the entrance of the Zed in the historical vehicle class, in 2015.
As an engineering exercise, yes, diesel engine adaptation would be interesting, but all in all it's seems to me as a blasphemy.
The same thing could be achieved, as Dino D suggested , with a V8 LPG with supercharger and it will keep, somehow, the horses in the same field.....;)

That some what goes back to Luddites during the Industrial Revolution, with out people thinking like Lee, we would not be sitting at computers or hand held devices on this forum right now.

I just want to say the transformed Zed should not smells like a truck , on the exhaust......:D

How about smelling like a chip shop Dan?;)

Tony.

Too environmentally friendly for me!=))

And going into a 57 chev 2 dr sedan with a tilt front end, 40" ford 9" rear end with 35 spline Strange Axles. Not determined the gear ratio but will likely run several. Will run on Hoosier slicks 28" tall. Full roll cage as well. JIM

Well chip shop could be the answer, a diesel running chip shop cooking oil

That's where I was going Rich. But boy do they smell awful. I wouldn't want my Z to smell that bad.:(

Tony.

Well once i have finished putting @bmbabes panther back together i think @GazHyde wants all his bushes doing too. So watch this space.
