Airbag light, no indicator lights and no reverse sensors

Hi all,

For context: 2007 Z4 was fine through March, left it for a few weeks when it snowed, came back in April and went to turn the ignition on and the horn started going off and the car wouldn't start as if the battery was dead. Did a bit of research checked the horn fuses which were fine and then unplugged the battery, left it off for an hour or so to take the airbag off and noticed moisture/condensation on the metal horn contact points, thought this was probably the culprit, wiped everything down, let it dry for a day or two. Subsequently clipped the airbag back in, changed the battery and now the airbag light is on, indicators are working but lights don't show up on the dash and I can't hear the indicator clicking noise while indicating but they are working, reverse sensors don't seem to be working either.. Starts, runs and drives fine, hill hold assist works fine, brakes are fine etc.

Tried, Creator c110, c410 OBD scanners and a delphi diagnostic system, none of them pick up the airbag module or pillar modules etc, they only seem to read the ECU and no codes on there. The only codes I can find, which I believe are from the DTC section on Creator, are 87 - K bus (delphi system says K bus short circuit to positive), BE Data filing different to central light module (delphi system says CAN communication open circuit). I have no idea where to start with this, could this be a fuse/relay issue, or a module issue? Any ideas are appreciated

Edit: checked fuses again, all seem ok. Noticed the roof buttons aren't working, I didn't check these before. Steering wheel buttons aren't working, fans only seem to work on first speed setting irrespective of the where the dial is turned to. AC light doesn't turn on but I can hear it coming on, rear demister light isn't coming on, auto climate control light comes on, recirc lights come on, hvac vents all seem to be working. Radio is working. Stumped.

It is possible that the car has got into “Transport Mode” for some reason. Doesnt throw a code but needs a scanner to reset.

Thanks Tony

From your suggestion and a quick google then reading a post from @colb on the Z4 forum that does appear to be the issue. I have ordered this from ebay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/164592788039 and will see how I get on. Hopefully I don't have to replace any modules. I shall update in due course.

Quick update. The car was indeed in trasnport mode, airbag light was on due to one of the airbag connectors not being pushed in fully.

When a friends E85 Z4 did this is just required a reset no parts. It had been left standing a long time.

It appears your car has gone into Transport Mode hence the systems not working as they should. Transport mode will get set when the battery gets flat, the car realises power is getting low and decides to conserve power for starting the car and closes down some of the systems to do so. The Creator 310+ has Transport Mode in its menu but it isn't operational, may become operational when updates are issued in the future, I did mail the makers asking but got no reply from China!
BMW Scanner 1.4 can reset Transport Mode, it also reads all modules fitted to the car being scanned and can do limited programming of some modules. Runs on Windows based Laptops from Windows 7 and above.
Sitting behind Scanner 1.4 is PA software a well known diagnostic software.
For Z3's it requires a 20pin to 16pin cable changer and be plugged into the round Pacman socket in the engine bay to access all modules on the car. If you have a 16pin OBD2 socket inside the car under the steering wheel that will only read engine and transmission modules.
A fellow member over on the Z4 forum just bought the kit from the same supplier but the cable it came with had a fault, he obtained a replacement cable local to him and resolved the issue.
Not so sure the airbag light will be down to Transport Mode, when you get the scanner you should get codes in the SRS Airbag module which will point you in the right direction for a fix.
