Jue's Kuga is making an awful noise from the rear end, I thought it was a wheel bearing gone but it's passed it's MOT today and all the wheel bearings are fine. I even had him double check them for me as I was so sure one was wining.
The noise changes sometimes with the road surface so the garage suggested maybe a bad tyre? Is this likely before I go spending on a new pair before they really need changing. They still have around 4mm left but happy to change them if this is likely to be the cause.

Tar.

Change tyres front to rear as Paul suggested Dave. How was the bearing checked? Just jacked up and "rocked" feeling for play?. Remember Dawn's Z3? Can't see it being anything but a wheel bearing mate, is it 2 (front) wheel drive?

Tony.

I had a set of 4 tyres on the Freelander a few years back mate, the noise was awful, changed the tyres and the noise went. Could be?

Yeah 2 wheel drive Tony. I'll change the wheels over on Saturday and see if it makes a difference.
Garage said they put it over the pit and jacked it up and checked them with a bar then took it for a run.

Put two new ones on the front last month and Jue thought the niose reduced a bit.

Sure my Z4 needs front bearings but when jacking up no noise.

Strange that. Once upon a time you jacked the car up and spun the wheel, if there was movement or a rumbling you changed them. What's changed?

I am reliably informed by our resident Guru some bearings are only noisy under load by jacking the car up we are releasing the load!

That's how Dawn's car was. Mint and me heard it at the first right hand bend as we left our house.

Sorry Grumps. I read "Jue's [a] Kuga [and] is making an awful noise from the rear end"
