Well it's been a week since giving my Z to my mechanic friend for a service, took it to him last Friday when that so called dust cloud from Europe hit us thus my Z was left out in it. I collected it last Sat night in the dark and garaged it back here until today. Drove it out the garage and was amazed at the amount of dust and what looked like water marks all over the paintwork, washed it stood back but water marks were clear as day in sunlight. Four hours of Maguires polish later with my arm dropping off and still some water marks visible, to say I'm frustrated would be a understatement. Now I've heard of this acid rain but never given it much credibility and if this is what it does then I'm amazed, it looks like it's eaten into the top most layer of clear coat. Maybe just maybe it's the last coat of wax that's been eaten into but whatever came down from above wasn't just rain. Going to have to get the polisher out tomorrow and hit the remaining water marks. Anyone had the same problem?.

Glad you didn't suffer Billz and Zetec I've probably made it sound worse than it really is, the fact that it's been harder than usual to clean properly and the fact that we didn't keep it out of harms way is really what's getting to me, we knew about this dust cloud but dismissed it, It's all about a learning curve that never stops no matter how old in the tooth you are or how well informed we think we are. I must admit though that once I got the paintwork clean years ago I've taken it for granted that it'll just take the normal effort to clean. Shouldn't have gone to Spec Savers (wouldn't have noticed without specs on).:watching::confused:

I was putting the soft top cover on mine before leaving work today Roy and I got a good/bad view of swirls so mine is going to have to have a serious going over and when we get back from Florida. So that's a job to look forwards to going out and coming home.:( I hope you get yours back up to how it was before the rain mate.

Tony.

I was lucky that my Zed is a weekend car and is always garaged when I'm not using it otherwise I'd probably be in the same predicament. Hope you get it back to its former glory:thumbsup:

Cheers Tony, was looking forward to seeing you and your Z at Duxford, but will have to see what you'll be able to get to when you get back, I'm determined to get to as many meets this year as possible so still looking forward to it.Roy.

Thanks Roy, we had a nice top down run today after getting home from work we went up through Lincoln to our daughter and son-in-law's tonight. Shame it was a little too cool for that on the way home. Blew a few cobwebs out on the A46 by pass on our way there though.:D. I'm hoping Pete(Koolflyer) is doing the Newark Air Museum meet again this year as that was a nice get together for us.

That'd be good Roy. Last year it was started on .net but @Davejue as well as me and more keep tabs on what's happening on there so it will be noticed if it's going to be held again.

Ok Tony, that'll be great if it comes off. Just for your interest my mech friend grew up next door to me and is same age as my son, when fixing my Rs2000 out in the road in the 70s-80s he would come sit on the kerb and ask me all sorts of questions, he now says it's my fault he's a mech, ha ha never thought he'd be looking after my interest doing all the jobs that I won't do anymore, how time has flown. After the service he commented on how impressed he was with the work that I'd done myself (as in the water pump, belt tensioners and belts,) cheeky fellow. He's turned into a lovely man who I've often said can take the Z whenever he wants, but has always declined. Good people are still out there!!!!!!.

I really like that story Roy. When I worked for myself I had a shiny faced young lad who came to me for work experience who turned out to be the son of a childhood friend from my home village. It was the best thing that ever happened as he became one of my best friends and when our Carla was poorly we had a week holiday at the P.A.C.T caravan at Bridlington and I told Paul to take a weeks holiday (paid) while we were away but he offered to open the garage and look after it for us. He was !8 at the time. What more can I say. Told him if/when he wants to use our place in Fla. all he has to do is tell when he's going.

Tony.

After a three day slog on the paintwork I think I've just about got it back to pretty much the same, having said that there was places on the car paintwork that needed more than a polish and still do, but am really happy at the results using maguires compound, big problem with stone chips still showing compound ingress so could easily be seen even after maguires famous waxing(conuba). To overcome this I used turtlewax black compound and wax on all but a few places which hid all but the biggest, then re waxed the whole car again, only used polisher where absolutely needed so now need two new arms, thank goodness for Ibubafen.

Your so right Tony, but as usual I'm sitting here on the net when I should be in bed, but at least I don't have to fight for the iPad anymore since I bought her one of her own at Xmas. Ha ha.

I did that too Roy. Next weeks (3) we will go into the restaurants in Florida and sit opposite each other, Shirl on her FLA forums and me on .ORG. If you want to polish another I can PM you my address.=))=))=)).
