"Mummy, what will I be when I grow up?"

His mummy replied "Don't be silly darling, you're a boy, you'll never grow up!"

So why is this not in the "Life's too short, have a chuckle" thread?

Because some of the puerile, petty, pathetic bickering and squabbling that I see on some of the threads just goes to prove it's true! And there was me thinking it was us girls who were the moody, sensitive types!

Please guys, and you know who you are......GET A GRIP!!! :banghead::banghead::banghead:

For the usual reasons I can't comment on specifics, but I would like to make a few generalised comments. Before I start this is not aimed at anyone, just my ramblings.

The first thing I will say is that on the whole people don't like being moderated & it causes friction. This is the same on every single forum that ever was, is and ever will be. Moderating a forum is literally the worst job in the world (OK, exaggeration but it genuinely really sucks).

Running this site has causes me a lot of stress from time to time, and I know Mike is also really protective over Zorg (despite his tough demeanor).

The reason I make this second point is that is that we care about the site, and sometimes things wind us up as well and we snap back. We are only human like everyone else who turns up here, but actually have less 'right to reply' than others do due to privacy reasons.

I do understand @GazHyde

Here is a perspective which everyone might like to keep in mind when writing and reading posts on here or anywhere else

Communication is made up of three elements - words, music and dance.
Words = well words, obviously!!
Music = tone of voice
Dance = body language

For truly effective communication we need all three (but even then it isn't guaranteed). Take one away and that's where problems can start, take two away and the potential for misunderstandings increases tenfold.

A post on here (or an email, text etc) has only words....no music or dance. I know what I mean and feel when I write it but the people reading it may each interpret my meaning and feelings quite differently and we all know what happens then!

Well that's enough philosophising for one thread.....is it the weekend yet? ;)

Yup, totally agree the written word is a complete minefield and where the majority of moderation is generated.

It's not quite the weekend yet, but it's a 3-dayer so enjoy it everyone whatever you get up to!

:confused::confused: - haven't got clue what this is all about - where did problem arise? If the rest of us knew maybe we could then agree/disagree and decide whether it's worth making a `song and dance' about :whistle:

I can understand where your coming from,but there's a fine line between "banter" and something that may be taken as offensive who is to judge?and this forum seems to have l lot of banter great as long as it doesn't get out of hand .Mods do a hard job.as for men being moody your right women are only moody once a month and it lasts for either 31/30/or 28 days =)) That's supposed to banter...............(note to self must try harder)

I think that the particular " banter " Gail refers to would be better done in private, either via PM or phone/Skype call then there would be all 3 elements of conversation. It's not nice when two people you talk to have a go at each other. Most don't like being " piggy in the middle ". :(

Tony.

ps. I respect the fact Mods. behave a thankless task and appreciate what they do for ALL of us.

My first experience on Facebook nearly lost me a very dear friend, I cracked a joke at his expense and because we couldn't see each other at the time it was taken out of context, that's the written word for you, when your facing someone the words can be interpreted as they're meant with a look on your face and the body language, well that's IMO, rather say something sarcastic facing the other person than write it that's for sure.=)) :happy: These smiley faces are just great for keeping us out of the s***, so to speak. Now I've said it HT can do it on me from a great height, and if I see it coming IT means perhaps I shouldn't have said it in the first place. YES??.;)
