And Japan too mate. I was working with the main man in charge of the Fukushima Event whilst in Pakistan, his view was that Datsun, Honda and Toyota stole the march and led the Japanese cultural revolution that made them into one of the major financial players in the World. Prior to that, Japan were circa 100 years behind the West, it was the motoring industry that changed the culture and drove the Country forward.
An interesting point, can not remember the program but they put the success of both the Japanese and German car manufacturer down to losing world war 2 were banned from producing weapons they switched their knowledge and expertise to making cars!
