Had a chap came in today for some paintwork on the above as he is selling it, all it needs is the boot lid painting as he has polished through,
Its 2002 with 97000 miles 2 owners, Titan silver with red ragtop, full history,
Car appears to be very nice with very little rust and completely OEM, red and black sport seats
I am only putting it on here as he's such a nice fella and has fallen on hard times as he has lost his job, he has owned that car for the last 5 years and it has been garaged and used at weekends.
I asked hoiw much he was going to sell it for and he was at £6995, I advised that it wouldn't sell at that price considering the mileage and he said he would take £5500,
No pics I'm afraid but I have his number.
If anyone is seriously interested I will take a thorough look at it for you

Mmm interesting!!! Shame it's an auto, might have been tempted.

Price is a long way off what the internet valuers quote though. For a top condition 3 litre auto with 60k miles they reckon £4200 for a private sale.

Who are the internet valuers? 3.0 Sports carry a fair premium over non-Sports. From observation I doubt more than 1 in 4 is a Sport so they are thinner on the ground as well as better equipped.

Tried a few sites, can't recall all but inc What Car, & Autotrader. I was as surprised as you. Either they are a long way off target, or owners expect too much! There was only £1.5k between my 2 litre and the 3.

I wouldn't rely on their valuations for older cars. Nearly always too low.

Your example should be in excess of £6k with that mileage.

For what it’s worth, I thought it went cheap. I have a one owner,Topaz 3.0 50k manual and there is no way I’d sell it for that.

In my view open auctions will always leave a car at 15-25% less than a fixed value sale.

Anyone who puts a car on open auction either doesn't need the money and can afford to lose a bit. Or is motivated enough for a quick sale they accept this.

Open auctions are also in the minority. So personally I don't really set out worth around them.

Also an auto takes a bigger hit on 3.0s compared with manuals.

Mostly I would agree but I have also seen a dog, rotten battered and abused Z3MR that was originally left hand drive, converted to rhd, stolen recovered, appeared to be a ringer go for big bucks on the same site.
It ceases to amaze me the fluctuations in the z3 market.
