have an issue with my 2.8 tu
sometimes its fine
other times when the throttle is applied it has little go in it till it gets wound up
it also hunts badly on idle
have a code come up and its for camshaft position sensor
are these symptoms correct for needing a new one?
if so is it only worth fitting a genuine part?
many thanks to anyone who can help

You mention "Bank 1" are we talking oxygen sensor in the exhaust? If you are Bank 1 would be pre cat.
If you have a cam sensor code is it inlet cam or exhaust?
Most problems arise from inlet cam sensor. Absolutely do not use cheap after market items, they rarely work for long, if at all. If you can afford to, use genuine BMW part or at least OEM standard parts.

Think you will find item No18 is Bank 1

Camshaft position sensor109/199812147539165

Bank 2 will be Item No 5

As to fitting oem parts, always best but its going to hurt your wallet if you go with BMW, best option would be known good brands from Autodoc on line, just looked and Febi and Delphi brands are extreamly resonable as replacements from them.

Sad thing is that sensors these days usually come from China for most brands including BMW supplied parts but packaged as BMW, Bosch or Seimens which were usual brands as oem fitments. The only sensor I wouldn't go cheap on are MAF's always Bosch or Seimens for those.
