BMW Z3, BMW Z3M Seat bushes for Roadster & Coupe
Do you have rocking seats in your BMW Z3?
The Z3 seats have four bushings in the underframe that can (and do) wear. When the bushings are worn, the seat can move forward and back as you brake and accelerate. BMW does not offer these bushings as repair parts.
Do not despair this is quite a common problem with all BMW Z3 cars especially now they are approaching their senior years and is easily fixed by replacing the perished original rubber seat bushes which are incorporated inside the seat runner mechanism. Removal of these old perished rubber bushes and replacing with new plastic seat bushes eliminates the rocking restoring your confidence to drive your car without the feeling you are going to slide off your seat. This also saves you £100′s if you go to BMW for a fix as they will charge you for a complete new seat mechanism.
A complete set of 8 bushes will repair both driver and passenger seats. Some minor trimming of the bushes with the aid of some sandpaper may be required to make sure they are a snug fit in the seat runners and all play is eliminated from the mechanism.
The procedure to replace these BMW Z3 seat bushes is straight forwards, but does require the removal of the seats from the car. The Z3 seat bushes are located underneath the seat!
