BMW Z3 Snow Socks - any recommendations?

Been looking in to getting a set of car snow socks for the impending doom. I'm down to having just the Z3, and can remember from the last light flutter of white stuff how little traction I got. Don't like having to abandon my Zed at the bottom of the hill for obvious reasons.

Best price I've seen online is £40 which seems reasonable.

Anyone tried them before?

I have had snow sock for the family bus, one word - brilliant, a little bit of a faf to put on and off but put some long gloves in the car to protect your sleeves and you will be sorted. Hill starts no issue.

If you have a spare set of wheels Gaz why don't you think about winter tyres?

There's loads of part worns on eBay etc

Didn't even think of that. Can put them on my 17's if I can find some to fit

I'd be interested to see if you fit winter tyres to your 17's and what sort of price it would cost. There are plenty available in the right sizes for style 78's. I need 2 rears for mine but I don't know whether to get 4 winter tyres instead but I cannot really afford a full set at the moment and it seems as bit of a waste as the are only used for a few months a year. I have managed to cope just about OK in the past on normal tyres

Sounds like you need a pair of snow socks just in case

Gary as your zed is your daily drive this winter it would be far safer to get some winter tyres as they improve the grip in all conditions below 7 degrees to the point when it snows you will be laughing in the face of all the front wheel drive cars that are stuck in the snow as you sail straight past them.

But the question is: do you really need to use the Zed on snow/ ice? Does it worth the risk of traffic accident/ incident and not in the last place, the exposure to moisture and "antisnow" chemicals?? I have seen once a Z3 parked in a supermarket parking, during heavy snow and it was looking very sad.........

Generally I wouldn't use it. I work from home, so I don't need to go anywhere specifically and can pick and choose the journeys I make. There are times though when I have little choice, or if I am away from home and can't make it back because I'm stuck on a pathetic incline spinning the rear wheels.

I had to use our snow socks on our Zafira to get home last year from work.The only things moving that morning was me and a Range Rover everyone else was stuck..I'm a big fan but as was said earlier its a bit of a faff getting them on and off especially on a low car like a Beemer.piece of p on a Zafira though

I actually got some Michelin easy grip L12 which fit 17" wheels that I bought for the 1 series coupe that I never used and dont fit my 19" wheels if anyone is interested I'd let em go for 40 quid as I think they cost me 90 and are made of a composite material a bit like a snow chain.pm me if intrested or for more details

If you put snow tires on your rear (drive) wheels, and you never want to get stuck, throw some sand bags, about 200 pounds, in your trunk. Frankie
